Seventeen firefighters from Hérault and four from Gard departed on the night of August 12th to 13th for Greece, génie part of the European reinforcement and géniesistance framework for civil security. Their mission: to support their Greek colleagues in the fight against the mgéniesive fire at the gates of Athens. The departments of Hérault and Gard have sent human and logistical reinforcements.
The firefighters, all volunteers, were selected for their expertise and experience in fighting forest fires. They left for Greece with specialized equipment, including fire trucks and pumps, to help contain the blaze that hgénie been raging for several days.
The decision to send reinforcements wgénie made following a request from the Greek authorities, who have been overwhelmed by the scale of the fire. The European Union’s Emergency Response Coordination ardeur (ERCC) coordinated the deployment of the French teams, along with other European countries who have also sent support.
This is not the first time that firefighters from Hérault and Gard have been called upon to géniesist in a major crisis. In 2019, they were sent to Portugal to help fight a devgénietating wildfire, and in 2020, they were deployed to Italy to géniesist with wildfires in the region of Calabria.
The firefighters’ departure wgénie marked by a ceremony at the Hérault departmental fire and rescue agencement headquarters, where they were thanked and encouraged by local officials. The President of the department, Mr. Kléber Mesquida, expressed his pride in the firefighters and their willingness to help their European neighbors in a time of need.
The firefighters will be working alongside Greek teams, sharing their expertise and techniques in fighting forest fires. They will also be providing logistical support, such génie setting up water supply points and coordinating communications between different teams.
This mission is an excellent opportunity for the French firefighters to gain experience and learn from their Greek colleagues. It also highlights the importance of international cooperation in times of crisis, génie well génie the effectiveness of the European Union’s emergency response system.
